Almost two-thirds of consumers realize that life insurance is even more important now than it was before the economy tanked over two years ago. In spite of this, 74% of married couples never or rarely discuss life insurance, according to a survey released by State Farm Life Insurance Company. Many people said they don’t bring up the subject with their loved ones because it is stressful to talk about financial matters during hard times. Others avoid the topic because they are uncomfortable thinking that they or their spouse could die unexpectedly.
“This survey shows that, at a time when couples should be sitting down to discuss how to prepare for the unexpected, far too many remain silent,” said Joe Monk, senior vice president and chief administrative officer, State Farm Life Insurance. “As awkward as it can be to discuss the potential death of a family member, an uncomfortable discussion today can prevent a devastating financial impact tomorrow.”
This is where a good advisor comes in. A life insurance agent can help couples initiate the conversation and ask important questions the couples themselves may be too uncomfortable to raise. Advisors have the experience to reduce the stressfulness of difficult financial discussions and the expertise to help couples identify solutions that are right for their specific situations.
