The Department of Health and Human Services released its final medical loss ratio (MLR) rule, turning aside efforts by NAIFA and others to remove agent compensation from the computation. In response, NAIFA President Robert Miller issued the following statement:

"NAIFA is disappointed that the administration rejected the National Association of Insurance Commissioners recommendation to take action that would ensure continued consumer access to professional health insurance agents in its final MLR rule. However, NAIFA remains hopeful that Congress will join the NAIC in recognizing the harm caused to consumers and make the necessary changes to the law."

A recent NAIFA survey shows that the rule is devastating the businesses of health insurance agents and hindering their ability to serve the public.
