NAIFA applauds House passage of legislation that would minimize the disruption to the American workforce by restoring a traditional 40-hours-per-week definition of a “full-time employee.” Affordable Care Act rules require employers with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health care coverage. A tax penalty would be imposed for noncompliance.

On April 3, the House passed 248-179 legislation that would redefine a full-time employee under the Affordable Care Act, increasing the threshold from 30 hours per week to 40 hours. Seven Democratic members voted in favor of the bill.

Unfortunately, the Save American Workers Act (H.R. 2575) introduced by Rep. Todd Young (R-IN) has little chance of advancing in the Senate, and the White House has said it would veto the bill.
