Today is Election Day, of course, so we encourage everyone to get out and vote. The men and women elected today will be making decisions that will affect your business and your clients for years to come.

Today is also the perfect day to remind everyone that at NAIFA, political advocacy is a year-round effort. Our staff and volunteers engage decision makers at every level of the legislative and regulatory system, from state capitals to Washington, D.C., working to keep our members in business and protect the interests of the public. NAIFA's government affairs staff monitors federal legislation and mobilizes resources to achieve the most favorable outcome for members and their clients. The constituent and staff lobbying effort is strengthened by both our industry-leading political action committee, the Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Committee (IFAPAC), and the Advisors Political Involvement Committee (APIC), our grassroots network of members who have developed relationships with virtually every member of Congress.

Away from Washington, our state associations work hand-in-hand with NAIFA's national staff to positively impact state legislation and regulations. They develop lobbying strategies, comment on key issues, implement uniform policies and participate in litigation. We also have developed favorable relationships with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL).

We report on hot legislative and regulatory issues and developments here on the NAIFA Blog, and additional information is available on the NAIFA website and in NAIFA’s GovCommunications: GovAlerts, GovTalk, and GovWatch.

Keep an eye on the NAIFA Blog in coming days for analysis of today’s election results and what they could mean for our industry.
