NAIFA President Robert Miller issued the following statement on the NAIC's resolution promoting action to address the adverse effects the national health care law’s medical loss ratio (MLR) provision is having on the ability of insurance producers to serve the demands and needs of consumers:

"State insurance commissioners took a big step in an effort to undo some of the damage done by last year’s national health care reform law. The NAIC resolution acknowledges that the MLR provision of the health care law has destabilized insurance markets and harmed consumers by hampering the ability of agents to act on their behalf. Agents are an important part of the health care equation, helping individuals understand their options and resolve questions over claims, while serving important human resources functions for many small businesses. It's now up to our leaders in Washington, either in the administration or Congress, to finally resolve the MLR problem."

Bipartisan legislation HR 1206 introduced by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and John Barrow (D-Ga.) is pending congressional action.
