NAIFA Senior Director of Strategic Communications Mark Briscoe and NAIFA Member and LILI Subcommittee Chair Cammie Scott presented a workshop on ways NAIFA is using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and the NAIFA Blog and ways advisors can use social media in their practices.
The presentation raised awareness and familiarized attendees with various social media outlets, advanced NAIFA’s use of social media, and covered the practical uses of social media by producers. Briscoe explained how NAIFA is using Facebook and LinkedIn to keep members connected and informed on Association activities and initiatives. He also told attendees NAIFA is using Twitter and the NAIFA Blog to connect with and communicate with influential people, like legislators and the media.
Scott explained how she uses Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to connect with fellow NAIFA members, clients and potential clients and to stay current on industry news. She recommends that agents using social media keep their profiles consistent and professional across different platforms: use the same picture and same tone. She also suggests that agents keep posts interesting but noncontroversial, avoid blatant sales pitches, and remain complaint. It is important, Scott says, to be positive, develop a social media strategy, make it fit your schedule and have fun!
